Why do people attach such significance to the heartbeat? An embryo is no more or less alive after its heart starts beating than before. If we're attaching significance to any level of biological development in an unborn child, it should be neurological development. A fetus does not have the neural structures capable of even rudimentary thought or the processing of sensations until the start of the second trimester at earliest. That means that until that point, an embryo/fetus is not aware of its own existence or the world around it in any capacity, cannot feel pain, and therefore cannot suffer. Why not make that the benchmark for considering when abortion starts to become immoral?

Those are good points actually. Consider this. Is it immoral to run a stop sign if there is no traffic? The answer is no. Yes it is against law, but it is not immoral. Is it a person, yes, but legally a person at that stage of development has no rights. The other side of that coin is, who’s life is more valuable, the unborn child of 6 weeks or the mother’s? The answer is obvious depending on the context. Let’s review. It is a person. Abortion is infanticide. At that stage of development the rights of a woman supersede the unborn infant’s. Sad but true. Proposed solution: pregnancy tests should be very inexpensive and a way to make them able to detect pregnancy earlier is needed. It takes 6 or more weeks to even realize one is pregnant sometimes. Until then, the current laws surrounding abortion with a third trimester cutoff is fair, except in the state of NY. Late term abortion is disgusting. I’m in the middle.
